St. Malachy Athletic Committee Meeting Date: January 29, 2006 Time: 6:30pm Location: St. Malachy Parish Center Conference Room Attendees: Mike Arnould, Annette Vassilo, Jackie Arnoldy, Scott Hanny, Randy Schmidt, Angie Sturm, Clay Courtney, Teri Miller, Bryon Meunier Minutes: 1. Fall and Winter Sports update: A. Boys Basketball—Randy reported that the season is over and all players paid their registration. Two teams of Cadet boys will be playing at Conseco Fieldhouse on February 12 at 1:00. Eighty-one tickets were sold for this event. Cadet Cheerleaders will be at the game also. Randy will send out an email to remind players to return their uniforms. B. Volleyball—105 girls are registered making up 13 teams. Four teams played in preseason tournaments. C. Wrestling---There are about 30 wrestlers practicing at the Brownsburg gym. Angie will call Wendy Sulkoske to confirm numbers and paid registrations. Annette will check into concern that there may be a girl on the team as girls aren’t allowed to participate in male oriented CYO sports teams. D. Football---all equipment has been turned in. 2. Spring Sports---The Spring sport entry deadline is February 21st. Angie and Randy will be in the Narthex taking registrations on Sunday. Mark Kramer is looking for someone to take over as track coach. Fees for the various sports will be: Baseball --$110; soccer --$50 (plus $5 for socks); kickball --$45 (plus $10 for shirt); and track --$32. Baseball and soccer seasons begin April 10th. 3. Donations--- The adult volleyball league donated $200 to the athletic fund. Annette also reported $155 and $760 donations to Booster club. Clay reported a $500 donation earmarked for new basketball uniforms. 4. CYO Awards---Forms will be coming out on February 6th. The awards include The Spirit of Youth award (eligible to HS juniors and seniors). The Busalt and Bosco Award (eligible to adults supporting CYO program). The Mark Kramer Award (eligible to an adult supporting CYO program). Teri will email criteria for awards. 5. Green and White Gala—set for May 15th and 16th. Mary Murphy is in charge. Budget for event is $5000. 6. Concession Stand Update—Teri has the volleyball coverage schedule complete. $4100 in sales as of December. 7. Financial Report—Clay brought in a financial report in budget form. The committee reviewed and approved it. Angie will check with Damlers to see if all Cross country registrations were paid. Angie will follow up with Mary Murphy about an endowment that was committed but has not been received. Angie will be purchasing 20 volleyballs at a cost of around $600. Angie also mentioned that parents asked about purchasing practice jerseys for basketball. Teri will check into this item as possible spirit wear. 8. CYO Bingo Night—organizers have asked the parish to donate a basket to be auctioned at the event on March 11th. The committee decided this request has come at a bad time due to Mardi Gras preparations. 9. Walk-ins--- Jackie brought up that a parent had discussed at a parish council meeting that there are no spiritual symbols in the gym and no indication during many of the sporting events that we are a Catholic facility. There was some discussion concerning this issue. 10. Future Agenda Items--- 1. Possible Scholar/Athlete award. 2. Possibility of purchasing a medallion for the points award. 3. Penalty for teams not covering the concession stand. 4. Possible purchase of cheese machine before next football season. 5. Continued discussion of possible recommendations to Parish council or other appropriate committee concerning spiritual symbols in gym. Next meeting will be held on February 26th at 6:30pm in the Parish Conference Room.
