St. Malachy Athletic Committee Meeting Date: July 23, 2006 Time: 6:30pm Location: St. Malachy Parish Center Conference Room Attendees: Scott Hanny, Randy Schmidt, Angie Sturm, Clay Courtney, Jackie Arnoldy, Annette Vasillo, Mike Arnould, Bryon Meunier, and RJ Van Noy Minutes: 1. Spring sports recap: A. Kickball-- We had a team win the city wide tournament. B. Soccer-- a 5th grade team played in the championship game. 2. Arts in the park--Randy mentioned that they made $1070 parking cars. This amount is down from previous years. 3. Spiritual symbol in the gym-- Randy mentioned that the cross has been painted in the gym and he has heard favorable comments about it. 4. Angie and Randy leaving their positions on athletic committee--Angie and Randy announced their plans to step down from their positions on the athletic committee. Angie will continue to coordinate volleyball but is also giving up the kickball coordinators position. Terri Fech will continue to coordinate the gym schedule and Randy will continue to coordinate soccer. 5. Positions needing to be filled for the upcoming year-- A. New registrar--Annette will contact Susan Gregory about possibly filling this position. B. Gym Liaison-- This person would be the contact for Terri Fech. C. Concessions coordinator-- Randy is considering taking over this position. D. Sports coordinator liaison--Annette volunteered to do this. E. Kickball coordinator F. First aid kit coordinator--To keep first aid kits up to date. RJ suggested a nurse for this position. G. Coordinator for Cross Country--mainly to collect sign up money. H. Track Coordinator 6. Athletic Handbook-- the committee decided to have another meeting just to discuss revisions. 7. Fall Sports update-- A. Football--Currently have 5 teams signed up. Larry Hart will coach the 3rd grade team, Mark Schopper- 4th, Mark Meunier-5th, Bryon Meunier-6th, and Dan Sulkoske will coach the cadet team. --Annette brought up the price of the football conditioning clinic which has been $5 in the past. She felt the price should be raised with the additional money being used to support the program. The committee agreed to raise the price to $20. Angie stated she would email Father Peter about this decision. --The Football Jamboree will be held August 26th. There is a $30 entry fee for each team to play in it. The money for this will be collected from participants parents. --Annette will ask Ruth Rogers to coordinate football concessions. --Clay stated there is $2200 allocated for football equipment and $2000 for uniforms. --Bryon announced that equipment handouts will be on Sunday. He felt that the Program would need 10 new footballs and 30 practice pants and pads for this season. B. Kickball--Currently have 6 teams: Two 4th grade teams, one 5/6 A team, one 5/6 B team, one cadet A team and one cadet B team. Equipment needs for kickball include scorebooks, bags, and a new game ball for each team. C. Cheerleading-- several girls have signed up. Any needed uniforms will be ordered. D. Cross country--need a coordinator. 8. Virtus training--Virtus training and background checks need to be done on any new coaches or coaches who haven’t previously gone through the training. 9. Physicals-- physicals are scheduled for August 17th from 4:30 to 6:30pm. 10. Financial-- Clay had no updates--will send info for year end updates. He also mentioned that Mark Conway is checking into the cost of purchasing baseball jerseys. 11. Summer basketball Clinic-- Mike had 49 kids sign up for a summer basketball clinic he organized. Tuesday will be the last night for the program and he will return the equipment to the gym on Wednesday. 12. Green and White Gala-- $2000 has been budgeted to donate to gala next year. 13. Other-- Angie will pick up CYO calendars for members. Angie will contact Father Peter to schedule meeting to revise Athletic Handbook. Next regular meeting will be held on August 27th at 6:30pm in the Parish Conference Room.
