Virtus Training – All coaches need to have their Virtus training complete and their certificates of completion on file with Fr. Peter by October 31st. A person can not coach until Fr. Peter has proof of compliance. Anyone who is currently coaching will not be able to continue after the October 31st deadline. A photocopy of the certificate received at the end of training will be sufficient. If you do not have the original a duplicate can be obtained from the Virtus website and printed off. Fr. Peter will also speak with Linda and try to get a comprehensive list of those who have had background checks performed. 2. Athletic Committee Members – Due to the recent resignation of two members, the Athletic Committee is looking for two new members. Anyone interested should let Fr. Peter know before the next Athletic Committee meeting on October 30th. The normal term served for a committee member is two years, starting on June 30th and completing on July 1st. The committee will vote and approve two prospective candidates to serve until July 1st, at which time they can submit their self for a full two year term, if desired. 3. CYO rule violations – There have been incidents of cursing and yelling by coaches during Kickball and Football games. This is contrary to CYO rules of conduct. Fr. Peter is investigating and acting on these incidents. Fr. Peter needs statements from two adult witnesses to act upon an incident and levy disciplinary action. Also there have been incidents of team members not being played in a game in violation of CYO rules. 4. Sports Evaluations – Sport Coordinators are strongly urged to have a standard form to be used in the sport evaluations. The coordinator should keep the documented evaluation on file in case there is a question about athlete placement on a team. 5. Prayer – We are not routinely praying before all sporting events. Coaches are strongly urged to lead prayer before a game. The coach or a volunteer athlete can lead the prayer. The prayer can be an “Our Father”, “Hail Mary” or other as desired. The prayer can even be held with the opposing team. 6. Parental Concerns – If parents have any issues, they should feel free to contact Fr. Peter and the respective sport coordinator. Fr. Peter is available on Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. 7. Volleyball Coordinator – Karen Shaffer is still the volleyball coordinator, since she did not step down from that position. 8. Meeting times – It was decided that the new day on which the Athletic Committee would meet would be the last Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next two meetings will be October 30th and November 27th. The December meeting day will be moved due to Christmas, but a day has not yet been decided. Fr. Peter will check the parish schedule to determine the place. 9.
