St. Malachy Athletic Committee Meeting

Attendees: Scott Hanny, Randy Schmidt, Angie Sturm, Clay Courtney, Jackie Arnoldy,  Annette Vasillo, Mike Arnould, Bryon Meunier,  RJ Van Noy, Terri Fech, and Father Peter Gallagher

Minutes:

1.  Prayer--Father Peter read Ephesians 4:32-5:5

2.  The committee discussed persons who may be interested in filling Angie and Randy’s positions on the committee.  Those mentioned included Kevin Thomas,
Tom O’Leary, Carmen Lopez, and Tom Gliva.  Father will meet with them to
determine their interest in the committee.

3.  A new coordinator is needed for volleyball.  Karen Schafer has resigned from the position.  Angie has offered to assist whoever takes over as coordinator.  Volleyball tryouts will be the end of November.

4.  Virtus Certification--All coaches and assistants need to have their virtus certificates on file in the parish center.  Father Peter will be emailing coordinators about the deadline.  It was noted that people are having a hard time getting copies of their certification.  Coordinators should notify Father Peter with the names of their coaches and he will take the list down to the CYO office to see if they are certified.

5.  The possibility of getting rid of the coke machine and using a cooler to sell bottles of soft drinks was discussed.  It recently cost $450 to repair the ice machine.

6.  Gym coverage--The schedule for boys basketball will come out on November 21st.  Home games will be scheduled on weekends.  Mike mentioned that the Schoppers might be willing to let teams practice one night per week in their gym.

7.  Financial--Clay reviewed a financial report he had prepared.  We are currently about $3200 above what had been budgeted which leaves us about $13000 in the positive.  Concessions are a little below budget.

8.  Issues--Clay also brought up an issue of a coach acting verbally aggressive towards a referee at a recent basketball game.  He stated he will be addressing the issue with the coach.  Terri mentioned that there is a form on the website to evaluate referees. 
Clay also requested that coordinators be encouraged to ask parents to help with cleanup after the last game of the day.

9.  Basketball jerseys for 4th graders--Annette will check on what it will cost to purchase new uniforms for the 4th graders as they have been wearing the old uniforms.

10.  Boys basketball update--Mike stated that the boys were evaluated for basketball. He also reviewed the process in which teams were chosen.
