St. Malachy Athletic Committee Meeting Date: January 29, 2007 Time: 7:00pm Location: St. Malachy Parish Center Conference Room Attendees: Mike Arnould, Annette Vassilo, Jackie Arnoldy, Scott Hanny, Randy Schmidt, Teri Miller, Bryon Meunier, Father Peter Gallagher, Carmen Lopez, Mark Conway, Kevin Thomas Minutes: 1. Father Peter led the group in prayer. 2. Teri explained the process of calculating points for students to get their “M” letter. She is looking for someone to take over the job. Kevin tentatively volunteered his wife. 3. Spring Sports: A. Randy will coordinate soccer. B. Mark Conway will coordinate baseball. C. It was unclear whether Mark Kramer will be coaching track again. Father Peter will contact him to find out. D. A coordinator for Kickball is needed. E. Team rosters are due to the CYO office by February 20th. Randy will be holding a registration after Mass on February 11th. Kevin volunteered to assist. Randy will collect all the spring sports registrations and distribute them to the appropriate coordinators. F. Mark Conway presented his budget for baseball. It was decided to keep registration fee at $110. G. Kevin recommended sending spring sport sign up notices home with the CCD classes. Father Peter will contact the religious education coordinators about this idea. H. Kevin questioned whether kickball should be a two season sport. He plans to check into the possibility of introducing CYO softball next year. I. Randy requested new nets for soccer. Father Peter will email Clay to determine if that is covered in the budget. 4. The issue of replacing the coke machine with a refrigerator was discussed by the business office and it has been decided to keep the coke machine. Annette suggested getting powerade for the dispenser. Randy will look into that idea. 5. Obtaining completion certificates for virtus training continues to be a problem. Coaches are now also required to have background checks done. It was decided that they would need to pay for their own background checks. Father Peter will collect the list of all persons who have had their background check. Coordinators of each sport will need to provide him with their list of coaches and assistants. 6. The gym coverage sheets were passed around and all available slots were taken except for one. Jackie will email Terri Fech with the coverage information. 7. Mike stated that the recently ended basketball season had gone well. He will be looking into running a summer basketball clinic again this year. Participants will be charged $30 to cover the cost of gym rental. 8. Scott mentioned that we would need to have budget for next year finalized soon as registration for Fall sports will be due at the CYO office on July 16th. 9. Kevin questioned whether the banners in the gym could be updated to include recent teams who have won tournaments. Father Peter will check with John Poole about getting the banners down for updating. Next meeting will be February 26th at 7:00pm.
