St. Malachy Athletic Committee
					   Meeting

Attendees:  Mike Arnould, Jackie Arnoldy, Scott Hanny, Randy Schmidt,  Bryon Meunier,  Father Peter Gallagher,  Mark Conway,  Clay Courtney

Minutes:

1.   Prayer:   Father Peter led the group in prayer.  (Psalm 57)

2.  Spring registration:  Track--40 currently registered.  Baseball--13 registered (baseball registration considered closed.)  Kickball--40 registered (we will have two 4th grade teams, one 5th/6th grade team, and one cadet team).  Soccer--90 registered  (we will have 5 teams:  one 5th grade team, one 6th grade team, one 7th grade team, and split 28 eighth graders into two teams.)

3.  Concession stand update:  Randy would like the athletic committee member in charge of the gym to check on the concession stand before leaving.  He has had miscellaneous problems in there including burners being left on.

4. Baseball:  Mark Conway will be ordering baseball vests that will be turned in at the end of the season.

5.  Budget:  Clay had several handouts pertaining to the athletic committee budget.  He briefly explained each of them.

6.  Non parish member participation:  Clay questioned whether we should continue allowing teams to have a team member on them who is not a member of the parish.  His concerns were that this cuts into the playing time of parish kids and that having several teams with a non parish member player adds up to an extra team and we don’t necessarily have the facilities for extra teams.  It is a CYO rule that teams can have one non parish member but it is up the parishes to determine if they will allow it.  Father Peter stated that we should definitely not recruit players outside the parish.  It was decided to handle this by having the athletic committee approve any non-parish member participation.  Father Peter will modify the Athletic Committee Handbook to reflect this new process.


7.  CYO Award nominations:  Father Peter had been given the following nominations for the Busald award:  Mark Vassilo, Angie Sturm, and Mark Menuier.  For the Bosco award:  Lori McFarland and Jackie Swihart.

8.  CYO office letter:  Father Peter read a letter from the CYO office asking for feedback about creating the A, B, and C teams.  They want to hear comments from coaches and parents with their opinions about seeding teams.  The email address to respond to is:  jross@CYOarchindy.org 
  

9.  Practice times:  Father Peter gave a reminder that team practices are not to occur during mass times.
