Sports Updates- Football: Cadet team has begun tournament play and has their next game on Tuesday the 30th at Brebeuf. If they win Tuesday’s game they will be playing the city championship game on Sunday November 4th. Uniform turn in has been scheduled Fall Kickball: Two outstanding student athlete payments still remain. The 4th grade team won the city championship. The committee discussed getting individual trophies, for each girl. A motion was made, voted on and passed: Individuals, on CYO City Championship teams, will receive individual trophies from now on. Championship teams of past years will not receive trophies unless their case is brought before the committee. Mike Arnould will investigate pricing for the trophies. Cross Country: Carissa Damler was the 5/6 Girls City Individual Champion in cross country. Marie sent Mike Arnould a letter asked for Carissa’s name to be added to the banners in the gym and whether the 3rd graders will get their money refunded. It was discussed and decided that the fees would not be refunded based on the fact that the 3rd graders in Track don’t get to participate in the City meet either, but still pay a full fee. Also individual sport placements are not put on the banners only team successes. Scott Hanny will look into having the gym banners taken down for updating. Cheerleading: Cheerleading coordinators are not sure if they will have enough students signed up, for squads to be formed for the winter. Only 6 girls are currently signed up. Concessions: Going well, with a good turn out for staffing at games. Girl’s Basketball: The Cadet team added a non-parishioner, after an injury reduced the team to 6 players. Almost all the teams have winning seasons. All girls are currently paid. Tournament starts on Saturday. Boys’ Basketball: There are 93 student athletes on 12 teams. There are 5 Cadet level teams, 5 5/6 level teams and 2 4th grade teams. November 13th there is a coaches meeting at the CYO. 2 students have not yet paid. The week after Thanksgiving the playing season will start. Annette brought up an issue. Her husband, Mark, wanted to coach to the A team. Fesenmeier was selected as the head coach. Mark was told he can help, with the team. Mark has coached 4 Cadet A teams and a Cadet B team in the past. Annette wanted to know how the coach was selected, since Mark was interested and why Mark and Fesenmeier were not allowed to work out who would be head coach between themselves. David Bratton stated that that was the most debated coaching selection of all the teams, by the Basketball selection committee. He stood by the decision to make Fesenmeier coach. Kevin Thomas will draft a process for coach selection. The Cadet C team is currently lacking a coach. Girls’ Volleyball: Notice for the registration deadline is in the bulletin. A registration drive will be done in the Narthex, after Mass in one of the upcoming weekends. Evaluations will be the week of Thanksgiving or the week following. Kevin Thomas asked the question of allowing non-parishioners to play. Kevin and Annette were opposed to a policy, of not allowing non-parishioners to play. * Kevin Thomas made the following motion: Non-parishioners should not be allowed to play on an A team, but allow 1 non-parishioner per team, per the CYO rules. Annette seconded the motion. The motion was passed by a vote of 4 to 2. Wrestling: There appear to be an adequate number on sweatshirts. Whether there are enough uniforms is unknown. 1 wrestling registration has been received. First Aid Kits: The First Aid kits have not been restocked. Kevin Thomas will take on this responsibility. Football coaches will be turning in the traveling/team kits and there is one in the concession stand. Sports’ Reimbursement Policy: Clay brought up the fact that we do not have a written reimbursement policy and that Father Dan has to sign any reimbursement checks. * After discussion Clay made the following motion: A sport will not be reimbursed after evaluations have occurred. If the sport does not have and evaluation, no reimbursement will be made, after CYO roster submissions. The motion was seconded, voted on and approved. The statement of the reimbursement vote will be added to the registration forms. Non-parishioner Player Policy: Clay asked for clarification to the non-parishioner player policy voted on earlier in the meeting. * The following motion was made: In the event of more non-parishioners signing up than there are available teams, based on the previous motion, they will be allowed to participate based on paid registration receipt date. The motion was seconded, voted on and approved. Treasure’s Report: Adjusted Year starting balance was $21,312. Based on the current budget, account balance and plans to have the various sports’ equipment upgraded, Clay proposed a purchase of football equipment and reconditioning of existing equipment. There is a good year end discount for football equipment. Clay suggested buying new equipment for the Cadet level this year. After discussion, Clay will get quotes and potential color schemes to be brought to the committee for approval at the next meeting. Clay also brought up equipping the potential softball program. No current decision was made. Kevin Thomas has possibly found field availability in Pittsboro. He will be attending a meeting in Pittsboro to confirm availability and report at the next meeting.
