St. Malachy Athletic Committee Meeting November 25, 2007 7:00 p.m. Parish Conference Center Attendees: Mike Arnould , Sister Barbara Reder, Scott Hanny, David Bratton, Tom Gliva, Kevin Thomas Minutes: The previous meeting minutes were accepted. Treasure’s Report: The treasurer’s report was presented. CYO Correspondence The CYO is holding 4 open wrestling matches and want to know if we can host for any of the tournaments. Sports Updates- Football: 5 players have not yet turned in their equipment. They can not participate in other sports until the equipment is turned in. The Cadet team lost in the City Championship finals during overtime. Mike is still looking to find a replacement for Bryon as the Football Coordinator. Boys’ Basketball: The game schedules are out and games are starting on Tuesday, November 27th. David will be circulating a home game schedule for gym coverage by the Athletic Committee. Girls’ Volleyball: 4th grade tryouts were on Monday, November 19th. 5th through 8th grade tryouts are Monday, November 26th and Wednesday, November 28th. Susan, Kevin, RJ, Nicki and Doug are the evaluation committee. Participation is down by a little, but Kevin is hoping to get more girls signed up. One player has an outstanding kickball fee and can not play until it has been cleared. Kevin will talk to her. The sports’ coordinators will continue to inform parents about the registration policy that has been in effect since the beginning of the school year. This policy states that if you have not fully registered, you can be evaluated, but will not be placed on a team until the process is complete. Wrestling: 2 players have registered. Scott will place another notice in the bulletin about wrestling and its’ deadline. Clay, via e-mail note, is suggesting that a Mat Transporter be purchased this year and the uniforms be purchased next year. The cost would be approximately $300 - $400. Kevin made the motion to purchase the Mat Transporter, David seconded the motion, the motion was approved 4-0. Cheerleading: Cheerleading for the winter season has been cancelled with many of the girls playing other winter sports. Spring Kickball: The Committee needs to check if Terri Fech will still be willing to coordinate the sport. Track: The Committee is still looking for a replacement for Mark Kramer. Baseball: There are currently eight 8th graders and nine 7th graders showing interest in baseball this spring. This may result in two teams being formed. Soccer: It is assumed Randy Schmidt will be coordinating Soccer in the spring. Softball: The last Pittsboro council meeting did not occur due to Election Day. Kevin will attend the next meeting and inquire about the possibility of using Pittsboro fields. Virtus Training: In the process of making sure all the coaches are certified, for Boys’ Basketball. First Aid Kits: Kevin Thomas will take action on this. Gym Banners: Scott still needs to contact John Poole. Additionally the Chess Team, who won a CYO City title this fall, would like a banner. Non-parishioner Player Policy: The motion and amendment was discussed and whether there needed to be clarifications. The amendment will be posted on the website. Coach selection process: Kevin Thomas passed out information on the coach selection process that he will be using. He also handed out a prototype coaching application form he will be using. Treasure’s Report: Clay, via e-mail note, suggested the $2275 received, for bleacher replacement, be placed in an interest bearing account/CD. Kevin mad a motion to approved this suggestion, David seconded the motion, the motion was approved 4 – 0. Clay, via e-mail note, proposed $5400 be spent for replacement football uniforms and helmet (30 each). The Motion was made by David, seconded by Kevin and approved 4 - 0. Next Meeting: The next meeting will by Sunday December 30th at 7:00 pm at the parish conference room.
