St. Malachy Athletic Committee Meeting January 6, 2008 7:00 p.m. Parish Conference Center Attendees: Mike Arnould , Sister Barbara Reder, Scott Hanny, David Bratton, Tom Gliva, Tom O’Leary, Bryon Meunier, Chris Kaiser, Clay Courtney Minutes: The previous meeting minutes were accepted. Treasure’s Report: Girls’ Basketball season has closed out and on budget. $1200 - $1700 was discovered in a separate account. Parish Council: During the parish mission week, the council asks that there be as few games and practices as possible, so as to allow people to focus on parish mission week events. Parish mission week will be around February 21st. CYO Correspondence Nothing of note. Sports Updates- Boys’ Basketball: The Boys’ Basketball season is wrapping up this weekend of January 12th. The tournament schedules have been posted on the CYO website. Two of the teams are undefeated. Girls’ Volleyball: The coaches’ meeting is January 15th. The season will start shortly thereafter. Wrestling: Chris Kaiser will be the wrestling coach this year. Clay has request a quote for the Mat Transporter, but has not issued a purchase order. Spring Kickball: Terri Fech will be coordinating the sport. Track: Mike Zimmerman will be coordinating track. Baseball: Clay Courtney will be coordinating baseball. We may have enough interest to field two Cadet teams. Soccer: Randy Schmidt will continue to coordinate Soccer. Registrations: Scott Hanny will post the Kickball, Track, Baseball and Soccer registrations on the website, with a Feb. 8 deadline. Scott will also put a notice in the bulletin and send a copy of the registrations to the school office. Virtus Training: All but one coach is Virtus trained. The remaining coach will be attending the next available session. Chris Kaiser, the wrestling coach, is trained. First Aid Kits: The first aid kits have been replenished. Gym Banners: An estimate for the banners was obtained. $3 per letter added to the existing banners and $67 to create a new Chess banner. Scott will confirm the updates needed to the banners and have them done. Football equipment purchase: The purchase of new equipment is in progress. The order of $5800, for 30 helmets and 35 uniforms was placed, by Clay. The artwork, for the helmets, is still being finalized. The helmets and pants will be green. The jerseys will be white with green trim. The old helmets are in for reconditioning. Gym rental: Terri Fech requested $3000 instead of $2000 for outside gym time rental. Tom O’Leary made a motion to increase the budget for outside gym rental to $3000. The addition caveat being teams should have a maximum of two practices a week and share courts. Clay seconded the motion and it was carried by vote.. Keyless entry: Keyless entry to Noll Hall has begun. Each Athletic Committee member will be given a key code. Each Coordinator has one and will be responsible to pass each coach their key code. Mike will ask Pam whether the key codes can be active 10-15 minutes before the first practice. Tom O’Leary will look into a keyless entry system for the athletics storage area above the concession stand. Coach selection process: Coach selection process will be further discussed at the next meeting. Bring an comments on the process suggested by Kevin Thomas to the meeting. Yearly Awards: Mike is soliciting nominations for the Spirit of Youth, Busald and Bosco awards. Nomination must be received by the CYO by March 7th. Mike is also taking nominations for the Mark Kramer award, awarded at the Green and White Gala. ‘M’ award points: Scott is to ask Bobbie whether she would be willing to track the sports points toward the M letters, as part of her Registrar duties. Next Meeting: The next meeting will by Sunday January 27th at 7:00 pm at the parish conference room.
