St. Malachy Athletic Committee Meeting April 13, 2008 8:00 p.m. Parish Conference Center Attendees: Mike Arnould , Sister Barbara Reder, Scott Hanny, David Bratton, Tom O’Leary, Clay Courtney, Kevin Thomas, Randy Schmidt, Bryon Meunier, Jim Yetter Minutes: The previous meeting minutes were accepted. Parish Council: April 23rd the gym will be in use for the St. Malachy confirmation reception. Concessions: The Concession stand has been offered to be supplied with Aqua Systems water free of charge. CYO Correspondence Nothing of note. Sports Updates- The CYO deadline for Spring sports is April 15th. Girls’ Volleyball: Mike Arnould will be sending a thank you note for the newly donated volleyball poles. Wrestling: The season is finished and the uniforms have been collected. Spring Kickball: There are two teams, 4th grade and 5/6A. Games start this week. Track: The first meet, today, was canceled due to weather. Baseball: There was a game today. Soccer: First games start tomorrow. Home games on Wednesday. Softball: The first games start Wednesday. Home games will be held at Tri-West. The new equipment is nice. Fall Sports: The CYO registration deadline is July 18th. St. Malachy registration deadline will be May 16th. One registration form will be made for all the Spring Sports. The registration forms will be sent out in the Friday folders on April 18th. Scott will have an announcement put in the bulletin to run from April 18th through May 18th. Cheerleading wanted to start practice in June, but Mike said August. Anything before that has to voluntary. Summer Sports Camps: There will probably be no Kickball camp. Volleyball camp will probably be held pending a reply from Mark Best. There will be a Basketball camp pending gym availability. Football will be having it's usual camp. Virtus Training: Three coaches have not yet completed Virtus training, but are signed up. One is a kickball coach, one baseball and one softball Website: Nothing of note Upcoming Events: Arts in the Park is July 19th. Volunteers are needed. May 8th at 7:00 is the CYO Volunteer Awards ceremony. May 12th and 13th is the Green and White Gala. May 14th is the Track City Meets. Gym Banners: Banners are up. It was stated that Soccer may have won in the early years. Noll Hall floor: It has been decided that there will be no new flooring installed in Noll Hall. Shamrock Field Repair: The field was repaired on Friday, but was not the best job. Additional work is required. Randy will have the first few soccer games at Tri-West, until additional work is done. Full field make over with double aeration and overseeding from Brownsburg Landscaping was quoted at 1500-1700 dollars. A possibility of $2000, if a lot of filling is required. CYO Awards: Andy Bratton was awarded the Monsignor Busald Award. Lori McFarland was awarded the St. John Bosco award. Treasure’s Report: The budget is on track. 33 reconditioned helmets are back to St. Malachy. 2 additional helmet failed the reconditioning test. The 7th and 8th grades will use the new helmets. The 3rd through 6th grades will use the reconditioned helmets. There has been talk with the Green and White committee about raffling 2 helmets and 2 jerseys. Next years budget will be circulated via e-mail for approval. New Business: Terri Fech is putting in the gym time requests for the 2008 – 2009 year on Monday. Mary Sullivan was not receptive to the idea of non-winter sports using the gym for practices. Sister Barbara will question this statement of use. Mark Kramer Award nominations were made. The nominees were Randy Schmidt, Terri Sengl, Angie Sturm, Terri Fech, Craig Walton and Mark Vassilo. After a committee vote, Randy Schmidt will be the recipient of the Mark Kramer award. There are 2 non-parishioners are participating in track this season. Mike Zimmerman has cleared this with the CYO. Next Meeting: The next meeting will by Sunday May 18th at 7:00 pm at the parish conference room.
