St. Malachy Athletic Committee Meeting

Attendees:  Mike Arnould, Tom O’Leary, Sister Barbara, Scott Hanny, Tom Gliva, Randy Schmidt, Bryon Meunier, Kathy Walton, David Bratton, Kevin Thomas

The previous meeting minutes were approved

Treasurer’s Report
The Athletic Committee paid slightly less than $3000 to the CYO for the 2006 soccer season.  Everything else is within budget

CYO Correspondence
February 7th is the KOC Bingo night.  Coaching for Christ Program is being held on March 11th at Bishop Chatard.

Concessions
Larraine Fluhr will be Randy’s replacement for running the concession stand next year.  Randy will begin training her during the volleyball season.

Registrar
88 boys are registered for Basketball with all forms complete.  110 are registered for Volleyball with 5 missing physicals and principal release forms.  There are 20 boys signed up for Wrestling, with 4 potentials.  Wrestling is looking for additional Cadet level boys.

Sports Updates-

Boys’ Basketball:
3 teams are still in the tournament, Cadet A, Cadet B and Cadet C.

Girls' Volleyball:
The MLK tournament went very well. The tournament netted approximately $622.  The tournament had 30 out of the 32 slots filled.  Gym coverage schedule is being passed around.  A motion was made and approved to give the old nets and volleyballs to St. Joan of Arc or St. Andrew.

Wrestling:
The first contest will be February 9th.  The weigh in will be February 17th.

Virtus Training:
Will check on the training for the Wrestling coaches.

Website:
The website is updated with the new Spring Registration Form.

Calendar of Events:
February 20th is the St. Malachy Spring Sports Registration deadline.
February 14th is the CYO Music competition.
February 25th will have no CYO activities due to Ash Wednesday.

Old Business:
The soccer goals are not in good shape.  Mike Orr looked at them and Randy needs to find out the results.  $3200 is the estimate for a pair of new goals.  This includes a few discounts on price.

Martial Arts – Mike has not talked to the Brownsburg Rec Center yet.

Mike talked to Clay out getting new Athletic Committee shirts, but no progress as of yet.

The coordinators need to check with the coaches to make sure team photos are taken.  David will make sure about the Boys’ Basketball pictures.

Board Items:
A motion was made and passed for the AC to donate 5 retired St. Malachy helmets to the SMS Mardi Gras.  

Nominations are needed for CYO and St. Malachy awards.  The CYO deadline is March 6th for the Spirit of Youth, Monsignor Busald Award and the St. John Bosco Medal.  St. Malachy also has the Mark Kramer Award to fill.

The AC will discuss the Girls’ Basketball uniform purchase next meeting.

Next Meeting:
The next meeting will by Sunday February 22nd  at 7:00 pm at the parish conference room.
