St. Malachy Athletic Committee Meeting

Attendees:  Mike Arnould, Tom O’Leary, Joe Grubber, Bryon Meunier, Scott Hanny, Randy Schmidt, Kevin Thomas, Kathy Walton, Sister Barbara

The previous meeting minutes were approved

CYO Correspondence
March 11th is the Coaching For Christ event at Bishop Chatard.  They CYO is starting a Cadet JV league for the fall football season next school year.  It will have modified rules versus the normal Cadet league.

Concessions
Larraine Fluhr is working into the job.  School Mardi Gras will be getting free popcorn and drinks.  Scouts would like to use the Coke machine for two events.  We will charge .30 per cup.  Randy will try setting up a table near the field to get rid of the remaining concessions during the spring sports.

Registrar
As of Feb 22nd:
Volleyball is closed.  
Wrestling has 24 registered; 1 paid with no information; some 3rd graders are missing.
Baseball has 6 registered.
Soccer has 66 registered.
Softball has 10 registered.
Kickball has 30 registered.
Track has 31 registered

Sports Updates-

Boys’ Basketball:
Uniforms need to be turned in still.

Girls' Volleyball:
Tournament is starting next week.

Wrestling:
Half way through the season.  Weigh ins have occurred.  The City Meet is March 20th and 21st.

Soccer:
Two parents are vying for coaching of the 5th grade.  Randy will talk to them and decide who will be the coach.  Mary Sullivan is willing to pay for the soccer goals with Mardi Gras money.  She is asking for additional quotes, but is receptive to the $5100 set of goals with wheels.  Randy will get a group together to do some field maintenance.

Softball:
10 are currently registered.  Kevin is expecting 2-4 more.  Tri-West is allowing us to practice 3 times a week between March and May.

Virtus Training:
Spring Coordinators make sure your coaches have been trained.  

Website:
Nothing new.

Calendar of Events:
February 25th will have no CYO activities due to Ash Wednesday.
March 24th will be the Spring Sports Coach Meeting.

Old Business:
Martial Arts – The Brownsburg Rec Center will be closing in the future.

Team photos have been taken for Basketball and Volleyball for the yearbook..

Board Items:
The Booster Club was discussed at the Church Adminstrative Staff meeting via Sister Barbara.  An e-mail was set to Mike Arnould with the guidelines and he has placed them in the bylaws.

Nominations where made for the Spirit of Youth Award.  The nominees were Zak Groth, Zak Laffin, Byron Woods and Reece Gillund.

Nominations for the Monsignor Busald Award were made.  The nominees were Mark Vassillo, Nancy Dorsa, Terri Fech, Angie Sturm and Bobbie Hanny.

Nominations for the St. John Bosco Medal were made.  The nominees were Jackie Swihart, Mark Meunier, Mark Best and Clay Courtney.

The next meeting will by Sunday March 22nd at 7:00 pm at the parish conference room.
