St. Malachy Athletic Committee Meeting June 28, 2009 7:00 p.m. Parish Conference Center Attendees: Tom O’Leary, Barb Hiskes, Kevin Rollings, Kevin Thomas, Scott Hanny, Jim Yetter, Joe Mettalic, Kathy Walton, David Bratton The previous meeting minutes were approved. CYO Correspondence Players and coaches will have to register on-line at the CYO website starting July 1st. Concessions Concession stand construction is underway and looks good. Registrar’s Report 60 cheerleaders are signed up (2 no pay). 31 cross country runners are signed up (3 no pay). 63 kickball players are signed up (4 no pay). 90 football players are signed up (4 no pay). 61 girls’ basketball players are signed up (3 no pay). Fall Sports Updates- Kickball: No firm evaluation dates have been made yet.. Football: There was discussion, during the meeting, about the coach selected for the Cadet team. Mark Vasillo was named the Cadet football coach. Joe Metalic wanted to be coach and Jim Yetter, said okay, if no other appeared. Mark put his name in as coach and Jim selected Mark to be the head coach. Jim based this decision on concerns raised by parents, due to anger management issues with Joe. Joe appealed the decision and argued his case before the Committee. The final decision was made to support Jim Yetter’s selection of Mark Vasillo as Cadet coach. The football skills camp will be held July 21, 23, 28 and 30 from 7 – 8:30. The skills camp is free and voluntary. Conditioning camp will be August 3, 5, 7, 10, 12 and 14. The cost will be $20 and half will go back to the kids as T-shirts. Sunday August 9th from 6-7 and 7-8 will be uniform handouts. The makeup day will by the 16th from 6-7 and 7-8. Other football dates: August 17th is the first non-contact practice August 19th is the first contact practice August 20th is fall physicals August 22nd is the football weigh-ins August 29th is the Jamboriee September 12th is the first game for 5/6. September 14th is the first game for Cadets Cross Country: Bobbie Hanny will call Marie Damler about the number of Cross Country uniforms needed. Summer Sports Camps- Cheerleading: There will be no official camp. Volleyball: An intramural scrimmage may be formed for 4 to 5 weeks. Girls’ Basketball: Had a good turn out at the camp. Boys’ Basketball: Will have some open gym time. David will send out e-mails. Calendar of Events: July 18th from 8:00 – 3:00 is the Festival of Arts. Barb Hiskes will coordinate. Thursday August 20th is date of the student athlete physicals. July 24th is the fall sport teams entry deadline with the CYO. Old Business: Spring Sports survey. Track and field had the most negative responses. Keypad access for Noll hall is being looked at. Pam Gilund is trying to decide how to limit access. Terri Fech has the calendar for Noll hall use. Cheerleading uniforms: $130/new uniform and $548 for replacement Cadet uniforms. Girls’ Basketball. 60 uniforms are scheduled to be purchase this year. Based on initial participants, Clay thinks this number should be 80 uniforms this year instead of 60 this year and 20 next year. Nike is competing for uniforms versus Riddell. The Committee voted and approved the purchase of 80 uniform this year at a $70 per uniform approximate cost. New Business: Bobbie Hanny will contact coaches and parent about on-line CYO registration starting July 1st. Board Items: Treasurer reports an approximate $400 deficit on the year’s budget. Kathy Walton was elected as Assistant Athletic Director, Scott Hanny Treasurer and David Bratton Secretary. Next Meeting: The next meeting will by Sunday August 30th at 7:00 pm at the parish conference room.
