Gym Manager Report – Gregg Bennett to handle for one more school year Gym Manager 2011 – trainee needs to be identified to work with Gregg for a year Calendar of Events No CYO Activities 2/17: Ash Wednesday Parish Mission 2/28 – 3/2 – no activities ISTEP 3/1 – 3/3 No CYO Activites 4/1 – 4/4 (Holy Week) We’ll do our best to communicate to coaches and minimize activities during these periods. Concessions: Popcorn machine may need replacing; not warming enough to pop kernals; Lorraine to ask Principal to possibly use Mardi Gras funds since machine is used by more than just for Athletic events. Profit-to-date on concessions is $1936. CYO Correspondence: Nothing new to report. Registrar’s Report: 115 volleyball registrations are all now complete; 17 wrestlers; spring deadline is 2/12/10. Winter Coordinators Boys Basketball – David Bratton reports that season is now complete; still identifying candidates for a coordinator for 2010 (2-3 candidates so far to be interviewed); Kathy Walton suggested we assess uniforms and sizes as we had players who did not get proper sizes or styles last season. Volleyball – Kevin Thomas reports that season has started and all rosters are in to CYO. The Martin Luther King tournament hosted by St. Malachy (Kevin and Susan Thomas) raised $1,036 and the committee voted to donate ˝ of those proceeds to the Haitian Relief Fund. Wrestling – Barb Hiskes reports that due to the numbers that St. Malachy had at sign up, we were not able to field our own team according to CYO participation guidelines. Therefore, St. Malachy has teamed with St. Michael’s to form a combined team that will compete as a St. Michael’s team. A portion of our registration fees will go to St. Michael so they’ll be able to pay the CYO fees on behalf of our wrestlers. Spring Coordinators – CYO entries accepted 1/25/10, CYO deadline 2/26/10 Baseball – Kevin Rollings may request some indoor gym time for training only Kickball – Tom O’Leary Fall try outs – Tom O’Leary is investigating the idea of holding these in May 2010 for the fall season 2010 3rd grade players: considering for spring season only and possibly to field a 3rd grade team only since there is interest from parents and children Soccer – nothing new to report. Sign ups in progress. Softball – Kevin Thomas reports that he’ll likely need 6th graders to complete a Cadet team; signups in progress Track – Barb Hiskes reports that 3rd graders may participate, but not in the City meet; signups in progress Virtus Report: Nothing new to report; we continue to be compliant Website Report – Kevin Thomas reports that he’s still working on a website update and will distribute new look to committee when it’s ready for approval Board’s Item’s Treasurer’s Report Financial Review – Scott Hanny reports that we continue to operate within budget. Football fees have now be paid to CYO and all other sports are current in terms of fees collected and remitted to CYO. Girls basketball uniform issue of misprinting on youth sizes is still an issue and is being resolved by the vendor. A $200 donation from a cross country parent will be used to offset future registration hardships. Old Business: Fall Sports Coordinators – positions still open; we’ll continue to post positions (boys and girls basketballl) Individual CYO City Champion plaque – David Bratton reports that this plaque is now installed inside the north end of the gym next to the Kramer Award Plaque. Organization chart update – Tom O’Leary distributed and will have it posted on website. Shamrock field renaming – Bratton and O’Leary to meet with Mark Kramer for ideas. Brownsburg Facilities contact – Track, Softball, Baseball, Volleyball – Tom O’Leary reports that based on early conversations, we should be able to secure summer time with the Brownsburg facilities. Equipment room lock and keys – Tom O’Leary distributed individual keys to committee members and the master key will be removed from the concession area key ring New Business: Kickball Coordinator – Stacy O’Leary was approved as the new kickball coordinator Nominations and Process for the upcoming CYO & St. Malachy awards: Tom O’Leary asked that we email nominations to him for the awards below in advance of next month’s athletic committee meeting (CYO deadline is March 5) Spirit of Youth Award Monsignor Busald Award St. John Bosco Medal The Mark Kramer Award Tickets are available for the Big Ten Women’s basketball tournament to be held at Conseco Fieldhouse. Barb HIskes will lead the communication of this to the boys and girls basketball players and parents. The next meeting will be Sunday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the parish conference room.
